Am I a candidate for dental implants?

At Mount Waverley Smiles, we can determine if dental implants are a good option for you. A few variables that can impact your candidacy include:

Medications: Some medications, like chemo drugs, corticosteroids, or bisphosphonates, are not amenable to dental implants. Beta-blockers for blood pressure or heart conditions can reduce the success of dental implant placement.

Illness: Dental implant surgery can take a toll on your body, especially during the healing process. Patients should be healthy and not undergoing treatment or dealing with certain health problems like diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disorders, or hemophilia, since these conditions can affect your ability to heal.

Gum Disease: Without treatment, this disease can cause infections and issues with the dental implant. If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, we'll perform a deep cleaning and examine your teeth for several months. If you maintain excellent oral health and gum disease is no longer present, we can go ahead with dental implants.

Insufficient Bone Density: It's crucial that you have enough bone mass to support dental implants. If you have bone loss, we may recommend bone grafting.
